This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on students’ mathematical problem-solving ability in the Pythagorean Theorem topic for Grade VIII students at MTs Negeri 1 Donggala. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. Data were collected through mathematical problem-solving tests based on Polya’s stages of problem solving, namely understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back at the solution. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, an independent samples t-test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed that students who received learning through the RME approach demonstrated better improvement in mathematical problem-solving ability than students who received conventional learning. The independent samples t-test showed a significant difference between the experimental and control classes. The findings indicate that the RME approach is effective in improving students’ mathematical problem-solving ability in learning the Pythagorean Theorem.
